Educate Together Secondary School, Wicklow Town

Model United Nations

WICKMUN is ETSS Wicklow’s annual Model United Nations conference, bringing together student delegates for structured debate, diplomacy, and collaborative problem-solving.

Committees

WICKMUN 2026 offers a range of committees designed to support both first-time delegates and experienced participants. Each committee reflects the work of the United Nations and provides students with the opportunity to debate global issues through structured discussion, negotiation, and formal procedure.

Committees vary in pace and style of debate. This allows schools to select committees that best suit their students’ experience and confidence levels. Chairs guide debate throughout the conference, ensuring that procedure is clearly explained and that all delegates are encouraged to participate.

Security Council

Fast-paced committee focused on international peace and security. Best suited to confident speakers or students with previous MUN experience. Delegations may include up to seven students.

DISEC

Disarmament and international security. Delegates debate arms control and global stability, working towards detailed and realistic resolutions.

SOCHUM

Social, humanitarian, and cultural issues. A supportive space for building confidence while engaging with meaningful global topics.

UN Women

Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Thoughtful discussion and inclusive debate suitable for a wide range of delegates.

SPECPOL

Special Political and Decolonisation. Analytical debate on complex political issues, peacekeeping, and international cooperation.

ECOSOC

Economic and social development. Balanced pace and broad themes, accessible to both new and experienced delegates.

Briefing Papers and Preparation

Each committee will be supported by a briefing paper outlining the topics for debate, background information, and guiding questions. These documents will be published in advance of the conference to allow delegates to prepare effectively.

Schools unsure which committee best suits their students are welcome to contact the WICKMUN team for guidance.
